ChatGPTで翻訳を試してみたところ、あまりにも素晴らしくてビックリしてしまった。
しかも、voice control for chatGPTをインストールすれば、音声でのやり取りも可能になる。
このレベルであれば、技術翻訳としてはもう立派に通用するのではないかと思われる。

次の日本語の文章を、英語に翻訳し、次にフランス語にしてみた。

「日本の美を再発見する」
日本の伝統的な絵画では、奥行きを表現するための技法（遠近法、明暗法、等）が使われることがありませんでした。 （それらが日本に移入されたのは、１８世紀半ば、つまり江戸時代中期です。）

‘Rediscovering the Beauty of Japan”
In traditional Japanese paintings, techniques such as perspective, chiaroscuro, and others used to depict depth were not commonly employed. (These techniques were introduced to Japan in the mid-18th century, specifically during the middle of the Edo period.)

ラフカディオ・ハーン（小泉八雲）によるボードレールの散文詩「髪の中の半球」の翻訳　Lafcadio Hearn « A Hemisphere in a Woman’s Hair »

ラフカディオ・ハーン（小泉八雲）がアメリカで新聞記者をしている時代、フランス文学の翻訳にも興味を持ち、ボードレールの散文詩の翻訳などもしていた。

1883年12月31日発行の｢タイムズ・デモクラット（Times Democrat）｣紙に、« ボー ドレールからの断片（Fragments from Baudelaire） »という記事があり、ボードレールの散文詩４編の翻訳が掲載されているが、その著者（訳者）がハーンであると推定されている。

フランス語を日本語に訳すのとは違い、英語の翻訳であれば、フランス語の構文はほぼ保つことができる。そうした中で、どのような変更が加えられたのか見ていくのは、ハーンの文学観を知る上で大変に興味深い。
ここでは、｢髪の中の半球（Un Hémisphère dans une chevelure）｣の原文と英語訳を対照しながら読んでみよう。
