These foolish things (remaind me of you) は、１９３５年にロンドンで上演されたミュージカル”Spread It Abroad”の挿入歌。
他の人から見たらどうでもいいものでも、自分にとっては大切な思い出、ということはよくある。
題名にfoolishとあるのがとても効いている。だいたい自分のこだわりなんて、foolishなものだ。

エラ・フィッツジェラルドがオスカー・ピーターソンのピアノをバックに歌うものは、しっとりしていて、一人で静かに物思いに浸る感じが心地いい。

楽器だけだと、アート・ペッパーのヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードでのライブ。
ピアノのジョージ・ケーブルス、ドラムスのエルヴィン・ジョーンズ、ベースのジョージ・ムラーツもいい。
でも、何といっても、ペッパーのテナー。
７７年のこのライブが、ペッパーの頂点だったように個人的には思う。

ジャズ・ヴァイオリンのステファン･グラッペリが、ミッシェル・ペトルチアーニと競演している演奏もある。

カウント・べーシーとオスカー・ピーターソンが競演した演奏は、なぜかとても軽くて、明るい雰囲気。
思い出すyouって、別れた恋人じゃなくて、ただの友だち？

カッサンドル・ウイルソン。
悪くないだろうけれど、foolish thingsを見て、あなたのことを思ってしまうという気持ちが、イマイチ伝わってこない。

最後は、ビリー・ホリデー。
幾つかの演奏を聞き比べてみると、この歌手の歌詞の対する深い理解がはっきりと感じられ、素晴らしさがよくわかってくる。

そして、ビリー・ホリデーが出てきたら、やっぱりレスター・ヤングも聞かないと。
